Welcome to CWA Local 4250 - Chicago, llinois -Fight Back!

ONE NATION - MARCHING TOWARD - ONE DREAM!
On Saturday, October 2, 2010, CWAers and members from more than 190 environmental, civil rights, and community organizations will be out in force at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington, D.C. We'll be speaking with one voice, as one nation, in a historic march on Washington. You won't want to miss this event. You don't want to miss this time to make your voice heard.? Progressive groups from every part of our movement: union members, environmentalists, community organizers, civil rights and immigrant activists, members of religious groups, and many more. It's time to reset our national agenda and get things done for working and middle class families. That means a strong, progressive program for quality jobs now, bargaining rights, retirement security and government that works for all of us. That's what every group in the coalition supports, but we know we can't do it alone. Together we are stronger. We'll make our voices heard again on November 2, Election Day. That's when elected leaders will figure it out: they can't take us for granted any longer. Our coalition is too big to be ignored. We know we can make a difference. We know we can make things right again. And we know that Congress will hear our voice, on October 2 and on Election Day, November 2.CWA will sponsor buses to Washington, D.C., for members, family and friends from mid-Atlantic and Midwestern states. Join your union co-workers and be a part of this historic movement. Together, we're putting America back to work and bringing America back together. ALL CWA Illinois/Indiana Members & Retirees can reserve your seat by contacting Liz VanDerWoude, President Local 4250 at evp4250@sbcglobal.net. * January 4, 2010 - Message From President Liz VanDerWoude *
Today is a momentous occasion for the Members of our Local. I have accepted the oath of office as President of CWA Local 4250. You have placed an obligation upon my shoulders and at the same time imposed a trust upon me. The obligation I welcome. The trust, I assure you, will be fulfilled. I want to thank the Executive Board and the members for the great honor bestowed upon me to the office of the Presidency and to my friend, our outgoing leader, Steve Tisza, for his many years of unwavering, wise, fearless and strong hearted leadership and great sacrifices he has made on our behalf and for administering the oath of office to me. I thank the Officers, Vice President Bolbat, Executive Vice President Sullivan and Secretary-Treasurer Slimko and Chief Steward/Executive Board Member Chapman, for the many acts of kindness, consideration and helpfulness which they have extended to me. I hope I may continue to receive the benefit of their experience and wisdom. Let me say, in closing, that without hesitation I accept this great honor of President of CWA Local 4250 with pride and gratitude and a full heart. I am fully aware of the duty I owe to the membership and shall discharge that duty to the best of my abilities. Today, I thank you in words. After today, I hope to translate my appreciation into deeds and conduct. In Unity and Strength Always Elizabeth VanDerWoude President Download PDF copy of message.

**** January 2, 2010 - Vaya Con Dios - From Steve Tisza ****
Effective Monday, January 4, 2010, I will retire as Local President and will be privileged to administer the oath of office of President of Local 4250 to Liz VanDerWoude as my last official act as President of Local 4250. Liz has been a loyal and trustworthy confidant of mine for the last 25 years. She is a strong-minded and futuristic CWA Officer and activist and will be Local 4250's 3rd President since 1969. Local 4250 members and retirees can rest assured you will be well served by Liz and her committed Officers and Executive Board Members in this New Year and new decade. These are not good times for at$t Corp. active union members, retirees and their families. However, if all at$t Corp. union members and retirees keep steadfast and actively participate in their Local's Mobilization activities and Retired Members' Chapters, we will endure. To survive, Local 4250 members and retirees have no other option. If you choose not to volunteer or involve yourself in your Local's Mobilization activities and/or RMC we will lose our fight against at$t's ongoing assault on future jobs, pensions and benefits. Furthermore, to win the War of 2012 against at$t Corp. all union leaders must learn from the blunders of ongoing 2009 at$t contract givebacks! Naysayers will take the easy way out and point fingers at Locals, Districts, Bargaining Teams or National Leadership. To those, I suggest they look in a mirror for the real culprit. I've had the distinct honor and privilege to serve CWA Local 4250 (5050) at$t Corp. members and retirees in various elected roles since 1967. The last 15 years as Local President. There have been many trials and tribulations to overcome during these 43 years and we always persevered. Local 4250 Members and Retirees must respond to every forthcoming directive from President VanDerWoude and your Executive Board in order to fight one day longer than at$t Corp in our imminent War of 2012.
