** CWA Local 4250 Women's Committee Mission Statement **
The essence of the CWA Local 4250 Women's Committee is to educate and train working women and the public on issues that affect women in the workplace.

Our objective is to organize women at work and incite participation from women who need to be organized.

Our goal is to elevate women's issues in the workplace, community, family and the Union. In our efforts to strive toward better working conditions, we must provide women the education and training necessary to assist them in their jobs and in their personal lives.

Our objectives and goals will be accomplished with the assistance of every member's participation. We must collectively identify issues that adversely affect working women and mobilize our membership with educational and training information.

07/30/10- Realizing Health Reform's Potential: Women and the Affordable Care Act of 2010
This issue brief analyzes how, over the next decade, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is likely to stabilize and reverse women's growing exposure to health care costs. Up to 15 million women who now are uninsured could gain subsidized coverage under the law. In addition, 14.5 million insured women will benefit from provisions that improve coverage or reduce premiums. Women who have coverage through the individual insurance market and are charged higher premiums than men, who have been unable to secure coverage for the cost of pregnancy, or who have a preexisting health condition excluded from their benefits will ultimately find themselves on a level playing field with men, enjoying a full range of comprehensive benefits.

03/13/10- The Paycheck Fairness Act
Forty-five years ago, President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act (EPA) into law, making it illegal for employers to pay unequal wages to men and women who perform substantially equal work. At the time of the EPA's passage in 1963, women earned merely 59 cents to every dollar earned by men. Although enforcement of the EPA as well as other civil rights laws has helped to narrow the wage gap, significant disparities remain and need to be addressed. Today, women make, on average, only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. CWA has also launched a new website, including an updated section for the CWA National Women's Committee. Please browse our new layout (TOP OF THIS PAGE), which includes our Mission Statement, and your Committee members and District Coordinators. In Unity, Liz VanDerWoude, President CWA Local 4250
